Lovers of the humble grape need not travel far to unearth the secrets of winemaking. Vineyards across Sussex, already responsible for several award-winning English sparkling wines, are sharing their secrets via series of intimate weekly tours organised by Best of England. During the summer months, visitors can go behind the scenes to find out how the wine is made, meet the winemakers, tour the vineyard and winery and sample wines. One-day tours take place every Friday, and May’s trip includes a visit to three wineries: Bolney, near Haywards Heath, Ridgeview in the South Downs and Alfriston’s Rathfinny. £179 per person, including station pick-up, transport between vineyards, tastings, lunch and a ‘tipsy’ afternoon tea. Book online.
