AboutThe Studio Kay Westmaas Testimonials
Studio Westmaas is a London-based interior architecture and design studio. The team, led by founder Kay Westmaas, works closely with clients on bespoke residential, hospitality and commercial projects to develop ideas and deliver beautiful, inspiring interiors.
Unlike other practices the studio does not have a house style, we pride ourselves on having the ability to breathe new life into any space - encapsulating function, form and quality. With the client at the forefront of each project Kay and her team tirelessly scour the globe cherry-picking contemporary pieces, art, one-of-a-kind antiques and custom-made furniture to make each space authentic to the client.
To date the studio has completed over 20 projects since opening in 2016. Projects include a 5 bedroom new build in Claygate, a 5 bedroom terraced house in Kensington, a studio flat in Holborn, a duplex flat in Crouch End, a bachelor pad in Egham and a basement renovation in Richmond. The studio is currently working on a Grade II Listed 6 bedroom house in Holland Park, a house in Richmond and a luxury rental flat in Highgate. The studio works on projects within the UK and internationally.
After gaining a BA Honours degree in Interior Architecture in 2010, Kay went on to develop her design skills working at luxury interior design companies in London, Barbados and Dubai. In Barbados Kay worked for Archers Hall, during her 2 year stinct there she designed over 20 luxury villas for some of the worlds most discerning clients. Whilst in Dubai Kay worked for WA International on the flagship 5* Renaissance Hotel, overseeing the design of all the private and public spaces. When Kay returned to the UK she worked for Kelly Hoppen and then Rose Uniacke before launching Studio Westmaas in 2016.
With a father hailing from North Yorkshire and a Barbadian mother, Kay’s childhood was split between Caribbean beaches and roaming the English countryside. Studio Westmaas draws on these experiences to enhance and give richness to each project; influences range from five-star hotels around the world and villas in Barbados to commercial properties and private homes across the UK. Kay currently resides in London with her husband and daughter.
"We engaged Kay to design the interiors and refurbish our new home over a six week period. From the start, Kay approached the project with sensitivity and enthusiasm. She took pains to elicit our needs, bore our queries with patience and responded appropriately. Her overall emphasis on elegance and simplicity coupled with a modern outlook was just what we had in mind. Ultimately, the project finished on time and within the anticipated budget - and we can't thank Kay enough for that." Rishabh and Cauvery Bhandari.
"I hired Kay to help decorate our front room. The brief was complicated as we need the room to play many different roles and to be honest, the client (me), was probably fairly complicated as well (I had strong ideas and opinions for what I wanted... some better than others). Kay really listened to what we needed, considered our likes/dislikes and delivered us a gorgeous and functional room that incorporated our favourite things, as well as things that we never would have thought to include, but look amazing."
